Making Your Long-Term Accommodations Feel Like Home

Whether an assignment is two weeks or two months being away from the place you call home for any length of time can be extremely taxing. Here are a few things you can do to make any accommodation, your home away from home, no matter your length of stay.

Sanitize

Sanitizing your space now is more important than ever, and as well as necessary it is a great way to make you feel comfortable when you will be occupying a space for an extended period of time. So taking the time to wipe down anywhere you plan on storing your things and even checking the bed and upholstered service for bed bugs can really add to your comfort and overall experience.

Fill Your Space With You

On lengthy assignments it is totally normal to get homesick, to minimize those awful feelings try bringing a little you into your space; if you have a favourite candle, perfume or essential oil diffuser make sure to pack it. The familiar scents will help with tension, anxiety and sleep.

Unpack

Living out of a suitcase is a good way to extinguish any feelings of comfort. It sits in the corner as a reminder that you’re not in your own space. So hang up your clothes, put your socks in the dresser, and as an added bonus everything you need is easier to find when it’s not crammed in a suitcase.

Personalize

Make your place feel like home by bringing your favourite books and displaying a few photos. Adding a personal touch will add to your comfort, wear your favourite pajamas, or even drink the same green tea you drink every night before bed when you’re at home. It’s really the little things that will make you comfortable and make you miss home just a little less.

Bring Your Own Pillow and Blanket

On top of personal touches you should also pack your favourite pillow and blanket. Sleeping in a new place can sometimes be difficult, with new sounds , smells, and lights all around you. Having familiar sleep items like a pillow and blanket can minimize these stressors and make for a more peaceful night sleep.

Bring Your Own Coffee

If like most humans coffee is an essential part of your morning routine make sure to pack your favourite coffee. Not only do the small pouches from the hotel not make enough in most cases, it’s usually not very good. The smell of your favourite coffee in the morning might just be enough to make you forget you’re not in your own bed.

And as always we love your input, so reach out on Instagram or Facebook and let us know somethings you do to make your stay a little more homey.

Stay Cozy, Travellers!
